Cost of Living Calculator

Compare the monthly spending budget you have with one you expect in another location. Add housing, food, transport, childcare and any other categories you need. The tool estimates the take-home income needed to preserve your current nominal saving amount.

Net income, not gross salary.
Monthly spending category 1

How the calculation works

Monthly difference = destination budget − current budget. Required annual take-home income = current annual take-home income + 12 × monthly difference, floored at zero. User-budget index = destination spending / current spending × 100. Per-person spending = destination budget / household size.

Worked example

A current $1,500 monthly budget and $1,800 destination budget differ by $300. With $60,000 annual take-home income, maintaining the same nominal saving amount requires $63,600 annually. The entered-budget index is 120; for two household members destination spending averages $900 per person monthly.

Assumptions and limitations

All category costs are entered by you in one selected currency. Labels identify scenarios; they do not trigger city-data lookup. The index compares your budgets and is not an independently measured regional price index. A zero current budget leaves the ratio undefined. Household size divides costs; it does not automatically estimate economies of scale.

Collect current quotes for housing, commuting and essential services before relying on a relocation budget. For international moves, convert both budgets into one currency yourself and account for tax/benefit differences separately. Required income is take-home income, not equivalent gross salary. Public regional price indexes measure broader baskets and can differ from a household-specific comparison.
