Fraction Calculator
Calculate with ordinary fractions, signed mixed numbers, integers or decimals. The result includes a simplified exact fraction, mixed-number form, decimal approximation and calculation steps.
Your result
How the calculation works
Add/subtract: a/b ± c/d = (ad ± cb)/(bd). Multiply: ac/(bd). Divide: ad/(bc), provided c ≠ 0. Reduce numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor.
Worked example
1 1/2 + 3/4 = 3/2 + 3/4 = 9/4 = 2 1/4 = 2.25. Decimal 0.1 is parsed exactly as 1/10 rather than approximated using binary floating-point.
Assumptions and limitations
Each input is limited to 100 characters. Denominators cannot be zero. Mixed fractional parts must be smaller than their positive denominator. −1 1/2 means −3/2. Decimal output truncates after 12 fractional digits and shows an ellipsis when more remain.
Use a slash for fractions and a space for mixed numbers. Scientific notation is not supported. Exact answers may be much longer than decimal previews; the fraction remains the authoritative result.
