Wall Framing Calculator
Create a basic wall stud tally from wall length, maximum spacing and rough openings. Grid positions are shown in a table and schematic. Opening king studs and user-specified jacks are counted separately, with plate stock rounded per layer.
Your result
How the calculation works
Start/end studs plus intermediate spacing positions form the grid. Remove grid studs strictly inside openings. Add two king studs plus two×jacks-per-side per opening. Plate stock=layers×ceil(wall length/stock length).
Worked example
A 4.8 m wall at 0.6 m spacing has nine grid positions before openings. An opening from 1.0 m to 1.9 m removes the 1.2 m and 1.8 m positions; two kings and two jacks give eleven stud pieces.
Assumptions and limitations
Openings must fit and not overlap. Grid-edge positions and added kings may overlap, deliberately producing a conservative tally. Headers, cripples, jack cut lengths, joints and structural sizing are excluded.
This is a material-planning sketch, not a framing design. Consult applicable rules and a qualified professional for bearing walls, bracing, connections and opening headers.
