Tax applied to subtotal after discount.

How the calculation works

Line amount = quantity × rate. Subtotal = sum of line amounts. Percentage discount = subtotal × discount rate; an amount discount is deducted directly. Tax = (subtotal − discount) × tax rate. Total = subtotal − discount + tax.

Worked example

Two and a half hours at $100 plus a $50 item produce a $300 subtotal. A 10% discount deducts $30. Tax at 20% on the remaining $270 is $54; total due is $324.

Assumptions and limitations

This is a single-rate, tax-exclusive invoice with one invoice-wide discount. Currency selection formats amounts; it never converts exchange rates. Arithmetic retains precision until display, so regulations requiring per-line tax rounding may need different software. Invoice details exist only in this tab; reloading clears them.

Confirm required tax identifiers, invoice wording, numbering and retention rules for your jurisdiction. This tool is not accounting software or a tax-compliance certificate. Printing opens your browser dialog; choose Save as PDF if available. A PNG, JPEG or WebP logo up to 2 MB is processed locally.
