Wallpaper Roll Calculator

Plan full-height wallpaper drops using wall height, combined width, roll dimensions and pattern repeat. Straight-match and conservative half-drop allowances affect how many complete strips fit in a roll. Spare drops are explicit rather than hidden in a percentage.

Full-height strips; openings are not deducted. Half-drop adds half a repeat to every drop as a conservative cutting allowance.

How the calculation works

Drops=ceil(combined wall width/roll width)+spares. Cut length=height+trim, rounded up to a pattern repeat for matched paper. Conservative half-drop adds half a repeat. Drops per roll=floor(roll length/cut length).

Worked example

For 10 m wall width, 2.4 m height, 0.1 m trim, 0.53 m × 10 m rolls and 0.64 m straight repeat, cut length is 2.56 m. Twenty required/spare drops need seven rolls at three drops per roll.

Assumptions and limitations

Doors and windows are not deducted because full strips may still be needed around them. Half-drop allowance is conservative and does not optimize alternating-roll cuts. At least one full drop must fit each roll.

Check the manufacturer’s pattern match, repeat and batch number. Add extra for difficult corners and future repairs, and use separate estimates when wall heights or products differ.
